Secretary Cardona, Deputy Secretary Marten to Meet with School Principals to Discuss How Federal Funds Are Helping Schools Recover

National Association of Secondary School Principals and students from around the country to visit Education Department during leadership week in Washington, DC

This Monday, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Cindy Marten will meet with representatives from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) to kick off their Trailblazing Leadership Week in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Department of Education. They will hear firsthand from principals about how they are addressing students' academic needs, tackling the social-emotional needs of students and staff, and using funds from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) to help with recovery efforts.

The meeting is closed press, but a press gaggle will follow with Deputy Secretary Marten and 2022 Principal of the Year Beth Houf.

Following the press gaggle, Deputy Secretary Marten will have limited availability to meet with a few reporters one-on-one to talk about timely education issues, including what she is learning from principals and educators around the country, reflections from her recent travels to Washington state as part of the ARPStars tour, the ongoing need for mental health supports for both students and educators, and the need to continue addressing education inequities, particularly in underserved communities.
