On Thursday, June 22 and Friday, June 23, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will travel to Bismarck, North Dakota and McLaughlin, South Dakota where he will focus on rural education and support for tribal schools. First, Secretary Cardona will head to full-service community school Cannon Ball Elementary School to see how the school is providing mental health resources for students and the community. Afterwards, he will head to the Boys and Girls Club of Standing Rock to see how the community program is connected tribal communities with additional resources such as broadband access. On Friday, Secretary Cardona will visit Bismarck State College to speak with educators about their career and technical education programs.

This trip comes on the heels of Secretary Cardona’s major address “Raise the Bar: Lead the World,” where he laid out his continued priorities to promote academic excellence and prepare for global competitiveness, and the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to ensuring states, school districts, and schools have the support they need to prepare students for the 21st century global economy.
