John Silvanus Wilson, Jr., executive director, White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) will deliver keynote remarks at the 2012 Annual Carver-Washington Scholarship Awards Breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 11 in Baltimore. Wilson will highlight the importance of alumni fundraising in helping to strengthen the overall capacity of HBCUs as well as the importance of HBCUs in the context of college affordability and completion.
The annual breakfast is a fundraiser that helps local Tuskegee alumni provide scholarships and other support to Baltimore area students attending Tuskegee University. Twenty-five students from the area are enrolled currently. The breakfast is one of several events that the Baltimore Tuskegee Alumni Association will sponsor during the weeklong 30th Breakfast celebration. Other events include a reception for the honorees and high school principals and counselors, a corporate breakfast and five days of recruitment in area high schools.
