U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will join leaders in Connecticut on Tuesday, May 29, to highlight state reform efforts and engage in conversations with local stakeholders.

Duncan will first join Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, New Haven Mayor John DeStefano and New Haven Public Schools Superintendent Reginald Mayo for a roundtable discussion with local teachers at the Brennan-Rogers School at 10:10 a.m. Duncan will highlight the Department’s efforts to strengthen and transform the teaching profession through the RESPECT Project and hear from educators about state reform efforts. The event will be followed by a press availability.

While in town, Duncan will also join local and state college presidents for a closed-press meeting. These discussions are part of a series of conversations that senior Obama Administration officials are having with higher education leaders across the country on the importance of holding down college costs.

In the afternoon, Duncan and DeLauro will travel to Hartford for an event with Governor Malloy and Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor at 2:15 p.m. at the Capitol. Additional details about that event will be released at a later date.
