Education Secretary Duncan, Attorney General Holder to Address School Discipline and Juvenile Justice Issues

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will attend the quarterly meeting of the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention on Thursday, July 21, at 10 a.m. The Council, which is chaired by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, includes representatives from 12 federal agencies and nine practitioners.
At the meeting, Duncan and Holder will discuss steps to address school disciplinary policies that push students out of school and into the juvenile justice system. The agenda also will include (1) a segment on youth and family engagement; (2) recommendations from the issue teams on the Council's four priority issues (education and at-risk youth, tribal youth and juvenile justice, juvenile re-entry and transition to adulthood, and racial/ethnic disparities in the juvenile justice system); and (3) agency announcements and updates.
