U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Karen Cator, director of the Office of Educational Technology, will discuss improving teaching and learning with the help of technology and innovation at the day-long State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) Leadership Summit on Monday, Nov. 7, taking place at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md.

At 10:30 a.m., Cator will lead a panel discussion, titled “Transforming Teaching and Learning.” She has been instrumental in shaping the Obama Administration's vision for using technology to transform teaching and learning, and has been a leading voice on connecting education policy to research, emerging technologies, and the challenges faced by teachers, students and administrators.

At the 4 p.m. closing session, Duncan will discuss advances in education innovation and The Learning Registry, a project that will make federal learning resources, wherever they are stored, easier to find, easier to access and easier to integrate into learning environments around the country and around the world. During his remarks, Duncan will also talk about how the American Jobs Act will benefit schools and help ensure that students are receiving a world-class education so they can compete for the jobs of the future.

The summit is a unique professional development and networking event for technology leaders and provides them with opportunities to learn from, and engage in, in-depth dialogue with national and state educational leaders and private sector innovators.
