Deputy Under Secretary Jamienne Studley will serve on a panel titled, "Community Colleges and President Obama’s Postsecondary Institutions Rating System" at 2:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, June 17, at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas.
The panel is being held at the National Benchmarking Conference sponsored by the National Higher Education Benchmarking Institute, which is convening some 150 higher education researchers and executives as well as national and regional educational policy decision-makers.
In addition to Studley, other panelists include Jee Hang Lee, vice president for public policy and external relations, Association of Community College Trustees; Patrick Perry, vice chancellor of technology, research and information systems, California Community Colleges; and, Christina Whitfield, vice-chancellor for research and analysis, Kentucky Community and Technical College system.
The Obama Administration continues to collect ideas and feedback from the higher education community on how to develop a college rating system that promotes postsecondary access, affordability and meaningful outcomes. Since last August, when President Obama charged the U.S. Department of Education with designing a college ratings system to promote these goals, the department has conducted forums, a national listening tour, and countless discussions to hear from students and families, college presidents, high school counselors, low-income students, business people, researchers, and others about ways to design a ratings system that will push innovations and systems changes to increase accountability for the federal investment in higher education, make better information available to consumers, and most important, benefit postsecondary students.
