Deputy Assistant Secretary to Visit Chicago, Speak at Striving Readers Literacy Meeting and Discuss Federal Student Aid for College

U.S. Department of Education Deputy Assistant Secretary Michael Yudin will speak at the U.S. Department of Education Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Grantee Meeting on Wednesday, March 7, at 8:45 a.m. in Chicago. Yudin will discuss the importance of developing high-quality, comprehensive, state literacy plans as a key component of helping us provide a high-quality education in every school, for every child.
This meeting will bring together Striving Readers grantees from across the country to share ideas and resources for improving their literacy programs.

Later that morning at 11 a.m. at Harold Washington College in Chicago, Yudin will discuss the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as the FAFSA, which is the application that students use to apply for federal financial aid, grants, loans and work study. In addition, many colleges, universities and career schools use information on the FAFSA to award state and institutional aid. Yudin will highlight the importance of filing the FAFSA early and the Department’s recent efforts to streamline the process.

City Colleges of Chicago is hosting these workshops and financial aid sessions for Chicago parents and students to help them complete FAFSA. City Colleges is encouraging students to fill out their FAFSA forms no later than March 15th to be eligible for maximum amount of financial aid.
