Event Date 1: March 20, 2013 11:00 am - 01:00 pm
The U.S. Department of Education’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Rural Outreach, John White, will discuss rural education and efforts to turn around low performing schools in rural areas at YouthBuild USA’s 25th annual Conference of Young Leaders (CoYL) on Wednesday, March 20, at 11 a.m. ET at the DoubleTree by Hilton Crystal City in Arlington, Va. White will discuss the importance of postsecondary education and career training programs for all students in today's economy.
He will encourage approximately 100 YouthBuild participants from both rural and urban communities to keep working toward their educational and career goals. The majority of these young people will be graduating from their YouthBuild program this spring and pursuing some kind of postsecondary education and/or job placement.
In YouthBuild programs, low-income young people ages 16 to 24 work full-time for 6 to 24 months toward their GEDs or high school diplomas, while learning job skills by building affordable housing in their communities
