Several Department officials will participate in Rural Community College Day on Wednesday, Feb. 16 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. Among others, Under Secretary Martha Kanter and Deputy Under Secretary James Kvaal will join in a series of conversations that will cover a variety of higher education topics, including the role of community colleges in increasing college completion rates, Pell grant funding, and increasing career and technical pathways to employment. John White, deputy assistant secretary for rural outreach, and Frank Chong, deputy assistant secretary for community colleges, will co-host the event.
Rural Community College Day is an annual event that brings together rural community college presidents, researchers, staff of the Rural Community College Alliance and senior department officials to discuss the role of community colleges within higher education and expanding opportunities for students.
