Department Officials to Give Keynote Remarks at State of the Art Conference on Postsecondary Education and Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities

Assistant Secretary Dr. Alexa Posny, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary David Bergeron and Rehabilitative Services (RSA) Commissioner Lynnae Ruttledge will give keynote remarks at the State of the Art Conference on Postsecondary Education and Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities Oct. 28-29 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
The conference will provide an opportunity for colleges and universities, researchers, program staff, parents and self-advocates to discuss the current state of policies, research, and practice in the field. During breakout sessions, panelists will share effective practices that generate informative group discussions.
In his welcoming remarks, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Postsecondary Education David Bergeron will talk about helping students with intellectual disabilities gain access to postsecondary education by increasing their financial aid and awarding grants under the model transition programs, designed to help postsecondary institutions accommodate these students’ education. RSA Commissioner Lynnae Ruttledge will speak about RSA’s support for postsecondary education opportunities leading to competitive and integrated employment for students with intellectual disabilities and the importance of collaboration by and with state vocational rehabilitation agencies. Assistant Secretary for the Office of Special and Rehabilitative Services Alexa Posny will discuss OSERS’ goals for career and postsecondary education for students with disabilities.
