Jim Shelton, assistant deputy secretary for the Office of Innovation and Improvement (OII), will give remarks the National Charter Schools Conference in Chicago Wednesday, June 30. Shelton will speak at a session entitled “The Role of Charter Schools in Innovation.” He will share ideas on how charter schools can design and disseminate effective innovative practices and sustain innovation, as well as adopt technology and other constructive solutions.
The conference is sponsored by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, which seeks to develop sound, coherent policies that support high-quality public education options for families who need them the most.
As head of OII, Shelton’s responsibilities include managing the entrepreneurial arm of the U.S. Department of Education, helping to make strategic investments in innovative educational practices through two dozen discretionary grant programs.
