U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana will visit Mahalia Jackson Early Childhood & Family Learning Center on Friday, Jan. 14 in New Orleans. During her visit, Meléndez de Santa Ana will tour the school and deliver brief remarks on the need for a comprehensive, collaborative approach to building language and literacy from birth through adulthood. She will also highlight federal efforts to support literacy education and the comprehensive literacy efforts currently underway in New Orleans, and throughout Louisiana.
The Mahalia Jackson Early Childhood & Family Learning Center provides services to children and families including preschool and kindergarten classes, a public library branch, a health clinic and outreach programs to neighboring childcare centers and schools.
