EUGENE, Ore.—U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana will deliver a keynote address at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Willamette High School welcoming back teachers and staff of Bethel School District. Later, at 1 p.m. at Kalapuya High School, she will hold a roundtable discussion with superintendents or their representatives on the Department’s “Blueprint for Reform: Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education (ESEA).” During this discussion, Meléndez de Santa Ana will highlight the status of ESEA and the direction of the Administration, along with proposed changes.

A community conversation with parents and students of Bethel School District will take place at 6 p.m. at Prairie Mountain School. Meléndez de Santa Ana will stress the importance of enhancing family engagement to support student achievement and bridge the achievement gap.
