Assistant Secretary to Speak at National Title I Conference in Tampa

U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana will deliver opening remarks at the National Title I Conference at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 31 in Tampa, Fla. The Assistant Secretary will welcome local superintendents, principals, Title I coordinators and state education staff and underscore the Department’s commitment to supporting reform at the state and local levels. Later that afternoon from 1:45 p.m.-2:45 .pm., Dr. Melendez de Santa Ana will lead a session on Technical Assistance, providing information on her office’s technical assistance initiative and discussing how the Department as a whole is rethinking ways of offering support to states and districts.

Also, on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 9:15 a.m., at the National Title 1 Conference, Dr. Carl E. Harris, deputy assistant secretary for policy and state technical assistance, along with U.S. Department of Education staff Ronn Friend and Danita Woodley, will lead a session on Title 1 family engagement to discuss the Administration’s blueprint to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and how it will strengthen and support a more systematic approach to family involvement.
