Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana, assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE), will deliver the keynote address at the 2011 Curriculum and Instruction Leadership Symposium at the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove, Calif. Her remarks, which will begin at 10:45 a.m., will focus on the Department’s “Blueprint for Reform: Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education (ESEA)” and its commitment to improving educational opportunities and resources for all students. Dr. Meléndez de Santa Ana also will discuss OESE’s efforts to help build capacity and support reform at both the state and local levels.
The three-day symposium, taking place Feb. 23-25, will focus on leadership strategies that drive change to eliminate gaps and accelerate achievement. It is sponsored by the Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee, a committee of the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association.
