Assistant Secretary to Discuss Importance of School Readiness in Closing the Achievement Gap at 2010 School Readiness Conference in Burbank, California

U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana will deliver the keynote address at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at the School Readiness Conference 2010: Ready for School, Ready for Life in Burbank, Calif. She will discuss the Administration’s efforts to support school readiness through early learning and early childhood education, as well as the importance of school readiness in closing the achievement gap.
The conference is hosted by First 5 LA and Families In Schools. Conference participants will include superintendents, executive directors, coordinators, parent educators, teachers, and parent leaders. The objectives of the conference are to:
- Increase knowledge of school readiness best practices.
- Provide opportunities to explore early learning curricula and tools.
- Create an environment to share lessons learned and celebrate successes.
- Strengthen conference participants’ roles in the continuum of the early learning movement.
