Assistant Secretary Alexa Posny, whose Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services administers programs that serve America’s infants, toddlers, children, youth and adults with disabilities, will deliver the commencement address for Beacon College Saturday in Mount Dora, Fla.
Beacon College is the only accredited college offering bachelor’s and associate degrees exclusively for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, or gifted LD.
Posny will highlight the importance of a college education and how Beacon students are helping reach President Obama’s 2020 goal to lead the world in college completion. She will offer words of encouragement and inspiration as the graduates prepare for future studies and employment.
The concept for Beacon originated with a group of parents concerned about higher education opportunities for students with learning disabilities. Responding to this concern, the initial trustees founded Beacon College. The college embraces students with learning disabilities by providing educational opportunities that acknowledge individual learning differences.
