NEW JERSEY — Kevin Jennings, assistant deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, will participate in an Anti-Bullying Forum in New Jersey beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Montclair State University. He will address the importance of creating safe, supportive school environments and the harmful impact of bullying and harassment on academic performance. Jennings also will discuss the Department’s efforts over the past year to address bullying. Those efforts include $38.8 million in Safe and Supportive School grants to measure safety at the school building level and to help intervene in those schools with the greatest safety needs.
The forum is hosted by Sen. Frank Lautenberg and the Federal Trade Commission. It will address state and federal resources available to parents and teachers, and highlight ways to prevent bullying.
