Kevin Jennings, assistant deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS), will keynote the Center for Social and Emotional Education's annual Summer Institute at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Fordham University in New York City. He will discuss OSDFS' new Safe and Supportive Schools grant program, which will provide federal financial assistance to eligible State Education Agencies (SEAs) to develop rigorous measurement systems that assess school climates. In addition, funds will be used for program interventions in the schools with the biggest challenges.
The Center for Social and Emotional Education was founded in 1996 at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City. The organization helps schools integrate crucial social and emotional learning with academic instruction.
