Kevin Jennings, assistant deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, will discuss the importance of improving America's schools at the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. His keynote address will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Kirkwood Adams Community Center. Jennings, who spent part of his childhood in the Roanoke Rapids area, says the quality education that he received in the North Carolina public schools enabled him to become the first member of his family to go to college.
The Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of more than 600 businesses in Halifax and Northampton Counties and invited Jennings to speak to discuss the important role civic leadership can play in improving our schools. The organization’s mission is to promote the business, industrial and economic development of the Roanoke Valley.
