Kevin Jennings, assistant deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, will address the importance of creating safe, supportive school environments at the Oklahoma State Department of Education's Safe and Drug-Free Schools Conference. He also will discuss the harmful impact of bullying and harassment on academic performance during his opening remarks at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at the Clarion Meridian Conference Center in Oklahoma City.
The Safe and Drug-Free Schools conference is sponsored by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. It will feature a variety of sessions addressing school crisis planning, youth empowerment programs, bullying prevention, gang prevention, prescription drug abuse prevention, teen dating violence prevention, and more. Additional workshops will include training sessions on research-based prevention educational curriculum, including suicide prevention, tobacco, drugs and violence prevention.
