Kevin Jennings, assistant deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS), will address the Bureau of Indian Education’s Summer Institute at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, in St. Louis. He will discuss outcomes from the Department’s tribal consultations and the Department’s commitment to improving educational opportunities and resources for Native American students, as well as reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
The summer institute will take place June 22-25 in St. Louis. More than 1,500 participants from 23 states will attend. The goal of the institute is to provide professional development training to educators within the BIE school system in order to meet the requirements of ESEA and to ensure that BIE instructors and staff have the necessary training to meet the needs of the students.
