Summit Workshops

The workshops were based on the research finding in chapter 10 of the National Research Council (NRC) report, Preventing Reading Difficulties in Young Children. These findings can be categorized into four broad areas:

1. Literacy Development During the Preschool Years;

2. Conceptualizing Reading and Reading Instruction;

3. Ensuring that All Children Have the Opportunity to Learn to Read; and

4. Preparation and Professional Support of Preschool and Primary Teachers.

At the conclusion of the Summit, summary workshops presented effective ways of putting the research in each of the four areas into practice.
