Kathleen Blomquist -- President's Commission on Excellence in Special Education's Staff

Kathleen, "Kat", Blomquist has a background in public affairs and media relations and currently serves as the Director of Media Relations for the President's Commission on Excellence in Special Education.

Prior to joining the staff of the Commission, Kat served as the Director of Advance for the Schundler for Governor campaign in New Jersey where she oversaw the coordination of the campaign's daily media events and logistics.

Kat traveled throughout the country as a Lead Press Advance Representative for the Bush-Cheney 2000 campaign. She assisted with the production of campaign events and worked with members of the press in the field.

Prior to going on the campaign trail, Kat was a member of Burson-Marsteller's New York public affairs practice where she had the opportunity to work on issues and crisis management teams for several Fortune 500 clients.

Kat served as a writer for a U.S. Army public affairs office in Giessen, Germany before entering the corporate public relations world. As the reporter for the 284th Base Support Battalion, she traveled throughout the region to report on local news and military training in addition to producing a weekly news program for the Armed Forces Radio Network.

Before moving to Europe, Kat worked in National Review magazine's Washington, D.C. bureau where she contributed to the magazine's editorial operations and helped to raise its profile by planning events with national political and media figures. Kat also spent two of her undergraduate summers working in National Review's New York headquarters.

Kat is a graduate of the College of Charleston in South Carolina where she earned her B.A. in media communications. She is a native New Yorker.
