Education Under Secretary Hickok Visited Aurora, Colorado as Part of National Back to School, Moving Forward Tour

On September 7, U.S. Under Secretary of Education Gene Hickok visited Fulton Elementary School in Aurora, Colorado, as part of the Education Department's cross-country Back to School, Moving Forward tour promoting accountability for schools through family, school and community activity.

Hickok toured classrooms and spoke to students, parents, teachers and community leaders about President Bush's education reform plan, No Child Left Behind, which is based on four principles: accountability for results; local control and flexibility; expanded parental choice; and using instructional methods that have been proven to work.

Hickok also spoke to members of the Colorado Closing the Learning Gap Coalition to discuss how business, government, and community leaders can help close the achievement gap among disadvantaged students and their more advantaged peers.

U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige launched the Education Department's Back to School, Moving Forward tour in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with President Bush on August 15.
