  • About teaching mathematics: K-8 (ENC-008504) The goal of this book is to help educators implement mathematics instruction that develops students who feel mathematically secure, use numbers confidently to come to decisions, understand mathematical principles, and can apply their understanding to problem solving situations. The three parts of the book address basic math education topics, 200 classroom problem-solving activities, and the changing nature of mathematics instruction.

  • Family math (ENC-000589) This book contains activities from the Family Math program; the program focuses on parents and children learning mathematics together. Activities involve experimenting, discovering, mathematical reasoning, and problem solving. Many activities develop understanding with hands-on materials. Topics include arithmetic, geometry, probability, statistics, measurement, logic, estimation, calculators, computers, careers, and recognition of patterns and relationships. The book contains ideas for creating an environment that makes mathematics seem attractive and interesting for children and includes ideas for parents to consider as they do mathematics at home.

  • Family math for young children: Comparing (ENC-010948) This book, designed for parents with children in grades pre K to 3, explores the theme of comparing as applied to numbers and measurements. The book uses games, activities, and explorations that integrate logical reasoning, measurement, geometry, and spatial thinking as well as probability, estimation, arithmetic, and other important mathematical skills. Fun and common household objects, such as toys, beans, and coins, may be used to explore shapes and geometry, estimate numbers and sizes, complete activities and play games, work and talk with others, and connect math and real life.

(ENC-016785) This activity book, part of the HOORAY FOR....FACTS! series, offers reproducible activities that aim to make the memorization of addition facts fun for students in grades 1 to 3. The four book series contains fact mastery activities for each of the arithmetic operations. This addition facts book features activities that include mazes, puzzles, and games along with materials and directions for making an addition facts learning wheel.

(ENC-016786) This activity book, part of the HOORAY FOR....FACTS! series, offers reproducible activities that aim to make the memorization of subtraction facts fun for students in grades 1 to 3.   • How to teach math facts. Grades 1-4. (ENC-014645) This resource book, intended for use by teachers, parents, or tutors, contains a step-by-step program for teaching basic arithmetic facts to individual students using flash cards. The aim of the program is for the student to master addition, subtraction, and multiplication without being dependent on counting. The program calls for student assessment, the creation of individualized flash card facts packets for home and school, and adult directed one-on-one practice sessions.

  • Ideas: NCTM standards-based instruction-grades K-4 (ENC-007841) This National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) book is meant for use as a resource for mathematics teachers in grades K to 4. The book consists of a collection of lessons from 1991 to 1994 issues of the journal ARITHMETIC TEACHER: MATHEMATICS EDUCATION THROUGH THE MIDDLE GRADES. Each activity sheet has been edited from its journal form for clarity and brevity.

  • Just for coins (ENC-014224) This teacher resource book, part of the JUST FOR series, contains activities for primary students to use to explore coin recognition, value and equivalencies. The JUST FOR series offers ten activity books for primary and intermediate grades; each focuses on using a specific manipulative such as pattern blocks, fraction circles, or tangrams to develop mathematical concepts. This book contains six step-by-step lessons, twelve student puzzler pages, and eight games that explore counting and making change, classification and graphing, and problem solving.

  • The Landmark method for teaching arithmetic (ENC-017340) This resource book provides strategies for teaching multiplication, division, word problems, and math facts. It is designed for public and private school teachers who work with students with language based learning disabilities. Materials in this book include a description of the principles of good teaching and a detailed discussion of the role of readiness skills. Also found are specific directions for the order and methods that are useful in teaching multiplication facts and suggestions for linking mathematics to the real world of students with word problems.

  • Number SENSE : Simple Effective Number Sense Experiences. Grades 1-2. (ENC-016332) This resource book for teachers, part of the NUMBER SENSE series, contains 35 experiences, broken into several five to fifteen minute activities, that aim to help students in grades 1 and 2 develop number sense. The four book series is designed to promote thinking and reflection about numbers with primary through middle school students. Each volume is divided into six sections that explore the major components of number sense: estimation, measurement, and mental computation along with multiple representation, number relationships, and relative size.

  • Sunshine math-Mercury Grade K (ENC-013658) This resource binder for kindergarten mathematics, part of the SUNSHINE MATH SUPERSTARS III enrichment program, contains 10 activity sheets featuring problems on a variety of topics, such as counting and sorting, finding patterns, and recognizing geometric shapes. The weekly activity sheets are designed to stimulate discussion of problem-solving strategies. The answer section contains commentary on each problem with suggestions for parallel problems to use to stimulate discussion.

  • Sunshine math-Venus Grade 1 (ENC-013663) This resource binder, part of the SUNSHINE MATH SUPERSTARS III enrichment program, contains 25 activity sheets for grade 1 mathematics, featuring problems that include finding patterns, making simple graphs, and writing number sentences.
