3 - 5 Statistics - Games

  • Use the clues! Math Pack 3, Data games. (ENC-015509) This packet contains materials and instructions for three games involving logical thinking, classifying, and testing hypotheses designed for students in grades K to 6. In the games, students use clues to discover a secret object, rule, or number. Each of the three games in the packet has variations to further challenge students. In a sample game, Guess My Button, a set of buttons with different characteristics is spread out and one student, the chooser, secretly chooses one of the buttons, but does not tell which one. Other students take turns asking yes or no questions in order to find the secret button. The student guessing the correct button is the winner. In a game variation, after each question students talk together about the best question to ask next. For each game there is a short explanation of the mathematics involved along with tips for playing the game.
