Section 118 - Second Year Funding

Program Memorandum - OVAE/DVTE FY 2001-7

Date: May 15, 2001
To: America's Career Resource Network (ACRN) Project Directors
From: Ron Castaldi
Director
Division of Vocational Technical Education
Subject: Section 118 -Second Year Funding

We have now been approved to proceed with the processing of second year continuation grants to ACRN grantees. Funding for the second year covers the period of July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002. Those grantees that were approved late last year will have a 12-month funding period extending from the current expiration date. The attached funding table indicates the estimated level of funding that has been allocated to each of the existing entities.

To receive second year funding, ACRN grantees are asked to submit a proposed budget for FY 2001-02 including information requested in ED Form No. 524 and a narrative explaining or justifying this budget. Please provide separately an explanation on carryover funds and how these will be used in the coming year.

The budget is to be accompanied with a statement of work stating the goals and activities for the second year of the project. It is important to keep in mind that the career resource network grants provided under Section 118 of Perkins III, support the implementation of statewide, systemic strategies for providing young people and adults with the career information resources needed to make effective educational and career decisions. The statement of work should be clear, concise, and to the point.

The ACRN team will review the grantees' performance report and the approved grant proposal to determine whether the grantee accomplished, exceeded, or failed to do what it had originally proposed to do. The results of this comparison will form the basis for approval or disapproval of second year funding. Team members will be contacting grantees for further clarification if needed.

Please send the proposed budget and the statement of work to Burt Carlson, US Department of Education, OVAE/DVTE, Switzer Bldg, Rm. 4331, 330 C St, SW, Washington, DC 20202 by COB June 1, 2001.

If you have questions about the second year grant, please feel free to contact Lois Davis at (202) 690-4839 or lois.davis@ed.gov. For additional programmatic information please contact Burt Carlson at (202) 401-6225 or burt.carlson@ed.gov.
