Name: Dixie Riepl E-mail: eriepl@inter-linc.net Subject: partner with gov. agency for edu. Grade Taught: Special Education City: Kimberling City State: Missouri Resource's URL: Date posted: Wed May 19 13:05:30 EDT 1999 URL: I am not now in the classroom. I am entering a Ph.D. program in Educational Leadership. However, I have two children that are teachers. My husband recently retired after 30 years in the middle school. We have many friends too that are still teaching. Your program to partner teachers with resources of government agencies is a great idea. I believe that it would be helpful for each government agency to develop a program for school children that will relate to their department and/or projects that are involved with. If they develop just ONE PROGRAM, it can be adapted to all of the different grade levels with some variation. So, it would not be necessary to develop several different programs. Teachers do not really know what resources are available at the various agencies. They do not know what projects are in progress or what kind of research you are doing. To initiate a partnership with teachers, the agencies could begin by offering the one program that they can offer to a classroom. The teacher can help implement this into their curriculum. In addition, it would encourage teachers to develop other curriculum internet programs. Would this idea work? I would like to know what kind of partnerships you now have with other teachers around the country. Thanks, Dixie Riepl eriepl@inter-linc.net
