These students are from low socio-economic and diverse families. They might not otherwise have the experiences of technology use. In addition, I would like this academically-based after-school activity to allow these students to participate in virtual field trips, connecting learning to real life. We already have internet access and this would further develop our capabilities beyond the school day (many students go home to an empty house).
