This table shows the number and percent of total FFEL program Stafford Unsubsidized loan commitments (numbers of borrowers and dollar amounts), by type of institution (public 2- and 4-year, private 2- and 4-year, and proprietary).
- From FY93-FY96, there were large differences in the proportion of Stafford Unsubsidized dollars committed to borrowers at public and private 4-year institutions; there was a 26.1 percentage point decrease for public 4-year institutions and an 18.0 percentage point increase for private 4-year institutions. The change in the proportion of Stafford Unsubsidized dollars committed to borrowers at public 2-year, private 2-year, and proprietary institutions from FY93-FY96 was 0.8, 0.8, and 8.1 percentage points, respectively.
- During the first 4 years of this program's existence, FY93-FY96, more than three-fourths of Stafford Unsubsidized dollars were committed to borrowers at public and private 4-year institutions. Between 6.5 and 7.9 percent of total Stafford Unsubsidized dollars were committed to borrowers at 2-year institutions, and between 4.7 and 13.4 percent of total Stafford Unsubsidized dollars were committed to borrowers at proprietary institutions.
- In FY96, 33.8 percent of borrowers at private 4-year institutions who participated in the Stafford Unsubsidized loan program borrowed 45.8 percent of the program dollars.
