Julie DeFrain serves as Advisor for the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. At the Initiative, Julie works on immigration reform, women’s issues, and the Interagency Working Group. She joined the Initiative from the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid, where she serves as a contract specialist in the Security and Privacy Data Management Division.
Prior to working at Federal Student Aid, Julie worked as corporate attorney in Chicago, IL and taught 8th grade in San Francisco, CA as a member of Teach for America. She holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. Julie is the proud daughter of immigrants who are successful restaurateurs. Julie and her family own several restaurants in the Washington, D.C. area.
