Thursday, June 6, 2013, 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM (EDT)

U.S. Department of Education

Washington D.C.

Keynote Address
Arne Duncan
U.S. Secretary of Education

Achieving educational equity in the face of our nation’s increasingly diverse Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) student population is the critical civil rights issue of our time. The lack of data disaggregation amongst the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) population masks significant educational needs of lesser represented Asian American subgroups.

The bedrock of this effort – iCount—is data disaggregation: ensuring that we count every single student, and identify the diversity of the multi-faceted AAPI student population.

Join a dynamic group of data specialists, education policy experts, foundation partners and high-level federal officials at this working symposium to identify the barriers, challenges, and obstacles to achieving educational equity, and strategize around best practices, systems and solutions.

Every student counts. Let us ensure that every student is counted.

To guarantee a space, please accept or decline this invitation no later than COB Wednesday, May 8.

Invitations are non-transferable. To inquire about an invitation or to learn more about the event, please email seema.patel@ed.gov.

Presented by the National Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islander Research in Education and the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders invites you to join a web chat on Monday, April 15, from 3:00-4:00 PM ET with a conference call and webinar on the Affordable Care Act 101: What the Health Care Law Means for Small Businesses with the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF).

Small businesses have historically faced challenges in accessing affordable health care. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) constitute over 1.5 million minority-owned businesses and have the second highest rate of self-employment, but also are more likely to lack health insurance coverage. The Affordable Care Act includes a variety of measures specifically for small businesses that help lower premium cost growth and increase access to quality, affordable health insurance.

As we prepare for open enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace on October 1, 2013, join Meredith Olafson, senior policy advisor to the Administrator from the SBA, and Iyanrick John, senior policy advisor from APIAHF, in an interactive session to discuss the impact of the Affordable Care Act on small businesses and provisions such as the small business health care tax credit, Small Business Health Options Program, and employer shared responsibility.

Following participation in the webinar, you will be able to provide information and increase awareness among your communities and stakeholders about the Affordable Care Act’s benefits and provisions related to small businesses.

If you would like to participate, please find the log-in information below:
