American Samoa to Receive More Than $14 Million in Additional Recovery Funds

U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that an additional $14,564,094 is now available for American Samoa under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. To date, American Samoa has received $53,511,721 through the ARRA.

Hawaii to Receive $11 Million to Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Hawaii will receive $11 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These funds are part of the $3.5 billion that will be made available to states this spring from money set aside in the 2009 budget and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced that 21 nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher education will receive Promise Neighborhoods planning grants. With the one-year grants, the recipients will create plans to provide cradle-to-career services that improve the educational achievement and healthy development of children.
