OERI BULLETIN - Summer 1997
NCES in a Nutshell
Wondering how the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)--the primary federal
agency responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data related to education in the
United States and other nations--can help you? A new publication, Learning About Education Through Statistics, provides a quick reference to the statistical material available
from NCES, including brief descriptions of the major surveys and studies supported by
NCES.
This 30-page booklet provides information concerning each study, ordering information for
major NCES publications and CD-ROMS, a listing of contact persons for each survey or
study, and information about Internet access to NCES electronic services. For a free copy of
Learning About Education Through Statistics call the National Data Resources Center at
703-845-3151 or the National Library of Education at 1-800-424-1616. You can also view
the report on the NCES web site at http://nces.ed.gov/.
