National Educational Research and Development Center Program. One FY 97 continuation grant for $2,941,125 to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, awarded to their National Center to Enhance Early Development and Learning. ECI, 219-1591.

21st Century Community Learning Centers Program. Six FY 97 continuation grants totaling $742,500 to six school districts to enable them to complete the implementation and expansion of community learning centers that meet the needs of the community by offering services in health, education, recreation, cultural, and social services. Research on the Conditions of Teaching and Technical Assistance to Partner States. One FY 97 grant for $604,411 to Teachers College, Columbia University, for pilot implementation of recommendations of the National Commission on Teaching and America's Future report, What Matters Most: Teaching for America's Future. Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program. Seven FY 97 grants totaling $1,376,420 to five universities and two school districts to develop model demonstration programs that focus on children who are economically disadvantaged, have limited English proficiency, or are disabled.
