A notice of proposed priorities to develop model content standards for English and for economics was published in the Federal Register on July 14, 1994. The proposed priorities seek the development of challenging model content standards, K-12, to facilitate state and local construction of content standards and related programs for teacher education, certification, professional development, and assessment of student achievement.
The public has 30 days to comment on the priorities. Depending on the public comments, the closing date notice of application availability for these two projects will be published in the Federal Register during the fall. Entities or consortia of entities, such as institutions of higher education, professional associations, state education agencies, local education agencies, private schools, and other public and private agencies, organizations, and institutions may apply for funding. Awards are expected to be made in early spring of 1995.
