Early Childhood Longitudinal Study. FY 94 contract for $2,171,000 to National Opinion Research Center, Chicago, IL. This is a multiyear contract that will be incrementally funded. NCES, 219–1737.

Eisenhower National Program for Mathematics & Science Education. One FY 94 grant (funded jointly with the National Science Foundation) of $58,500 to the Mathematical Sciences Education Board, National Academy of Sciences, to produce a document identifying the key questions, issues, and answers from research in mathematics at all levels worldwide and make the information available widely. Eisenhower National Program for Mathematics & Science Education. One $40,000 FY 94 grant (funded jointly with the National Science Foundation) to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences to conduct a conference to consider the current state of secondary education, primarily in mathematics and science. Field-Initiated Studies. Ten FY 94 grants totaling $864,470 to researchers in institutions of higher education for research on any topic that will advance educational theory and practice. OR, 219–2223.

Fund for Innovation in Education (FIE): Comprehensive School Health Education Program. FY 94 awards totaling $1,108,014 awarded to 8 projects and 23 continuation grants totaling $3,482,730 for projects in which schools work in partnerships with families and the community on comprehensive school health education. FIE: Computer-Based Instruction Program. A total of $1,804,671 for 13 continuation grants that strengthen and expand computer resources in public and private elementary and secondary schools. FIRST, 219–1496.

FIE: Innovation in Education Program. Fourteen continuation grants to state education agencies totaling $3,707,332 to develop curriculum frameworks for English, history, geography, civics, and the arts, and combinations of those disciplines using a multidisciplinary approach. FIRST, 219–1496.

FIE: Innovation in Education Program. Seven continuation grants totaling $1,272,631 for projects that seek innovative ways to restructure school systems. FIRST, 219–1496.

Fund for the Improvement & Reform of Schools & Teaching (FIRST): Family-School Partnerships. Continuation grants totaling $3,403,977 for 24 projects that increase the involvement of families in improving the educational achievement of their children. FIRST, 219–1496.

FIRST: Schools & Teachers Program—School-Level Projects. FY 94 grants totaling $1,799,101 to 21 local education agencies for activities designed to provide opportunities for teacher enrichment and other means to improve the professional status of teachers. FIRST, 219–1496.

Jacob K. Javits Gifted & Talented Students Education Program. FY 94 continuation grants totaling $7,238,190 to 32 local school districts, state departments of education, institutions of higher education, and nonprofit agencies to support efforts to serve gifted and talented students, especially those who are economically disadvantaged, limited-English proficient, or who have disabilities. Library Education & Human Resource Development Program. FY 94 grants totaling $4.8 million: $3.7 million to 35 institutions of higher education to provide fellowships in library and information science; $1.1 million to 15 institutions of higher education to support institutes or training workshops primarily for public and school librarians. Library Services for Indian Tribes & Hawaiian Natives Basic Grants Program. One FY 94 grant of $603,840 for Hawaiian Natives to Alu Like, Inc. to provide library programs to isolated island communities, and for fellowships and training in library science. LP, 219–1315.

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Data Reporting Program. FY 94 grants totaling approximately $759,000 to seven universities, researchers, and research organizations to do specific research using NAEP data. NCES, 219–1761.

NAEP 1996 Development Program. One new multiyear cooperative agreement to the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ, to begin developing assessments for 1996. FY 94 funding for the grant is approximately $2,700,000. NCES, 219–1761.

National Diffusion Network (NDN) Developer Demonstrator Projects. FY 94 continuation grants totaling $4,574,562 to 60 institutions of higher education, local education agencies, state education agencies, and private nonprofit organizations to promote effective education programs and to provide training, curriculum materials, and follow-up assistance. NDN State & Private School Facilitators. FY 94 continuation grants totaling $6,786,654 to 56 institutions of higher education, local education agencies, state education agencies, and private nonprofit organizations to serve as links between NDN projects and educators, schools, and districts. NDN Technical Assistance Contract. One FY 94 contract for $459,371 to RMC Research Corporation, Portsmouth, NH, to provide continuous technical assistance to NDN projects, conduct nationwide searches for and technical assistance in evaluation of potential programs, and design a marketing plan. Public Library State Grants. Two additional FY 94 state-administered grants totaling $13.9 million, bringing the FY 94 total to $106.5 million to 52 state library agencies to fund new public library service projects, public library construction and technology projects, and interlibrary cooperative projects.
