Deputy Secretary Tony Miller was greeted by students and teachers when he arrived today at Renmin University’s affiliated secondary school in Beijing, China. This was Deputy Secretary Miller’s first visit to a Chinese school.
The campus tour highlighted the school’s innovative research and artistic performances. Through digital video conferencing, Miller simultaneously addressed four other classrooms on the importance of mathematics education. Miller also congratulated the students on their outstanding academic and artistic achievements.
In the afternoon, the Deputy Secretary had an opportunity to visit a brain research laboratory at Beijing Normal University. “The United States education system could benefit from China’s best practices, with regards to student success and achievement,” Miller commented.
