OVAE hosted the Department's 2nd National High School summit on December 2 and 3, 2004. Nearly 1000 individuals participated - educators, policymakers, business leaders, and government officials included. This event built on the work OVAE has done with states over the last year and showcased states' efforts in the areas of accountability, improving student achievement at the secondary level, transitions from middle to high school and high school to postsecondary education and careers, and ensuring students access to a rigorous, academic course of study.
Keynote speakers at the 2004 National High School Leadership Summit included Secretary Rod Paige, Neil Howe, Author, Governor Mark Warner, and Iaonnis Miaoulis, Director of the Boston Museum of Science. During the summit, attendees were given time to interact with others from their state, as well as those who play similar roles in other areas across the country, through breakout sessions, team time, and stakeholder forums.
