CESA 5 - Project Big™ Consortium

Portage, WI

Summary

Twenty-one school districts and private schools in central Wisconsin collaborate with CESA 5 to provide a comprehensive professional development program to (1) increase student achievement in Information and Technology Literacy (ITLS) and inquiry skills across all curricular areas; (2) provide opportunities for teachers to develop and implement technology-rich, problem-based, engaged learning activities; (3) expand teacher understanding of assistive technologies; (4) provide opportunities for teachers to develop professional development plans and data-rich portfolios; and (5) enhance adult literacy and student learning through expanded parental involvement activities.

Project Big6™ is funded through a Title II-D competitive grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Classroom technologies used include application software, inspiration, Web resources, presentation software, digital video, and multimedia applications. Professional development activities combine face-to-face trainings with online courses and online discussion groups using BlackBoard. The model also trains and supports in-district coaches or mentors who provide day-to-day encouragement and technical support for teachers.
