Sometimes, students with disabilities are actually at an advantage over students without a disability. I say that because they have IEP''''s that specify their needs. Because IEP''''s are legal contracts, the schools have to supply the students with the necessary tools. Students without IEP''''s, those not in special education, are at a disadvantage because there is no legal contract stating that they must be provided with anything, other than a textbook. I do think schools could make it easier for students who are supplied with technology because of their IEP. I have a student who has a word processor provided to him, but the printer in the library (on the second floor, and this student is in a wheel chair) is always broken. His system runs on batteries, but they do not provide him with batteries. His family does not have a lot of money, so batteries can cut into their food budget. Point being, we need to look at the student, not at the bottom line.
