  Students Technological Expectations

I am a public school teacher at a school that has a wide variety of socioeconomic levels feeding into it. Because of the lack of funding in the schools, and because most of my students do not have computers in the home, their expectations for technological development are low. In fact, they are not very comfortable even surfing the internet. Of course there are some students who do have these capabilities and advantages, but they are few and far between. An ideal situation would be one in which all students had access to technology at home and at school from K-12. Once the public realizes that putting money into education is important, we can properly fund our schools and teach our students to be successful. If we truly wish to "leave no student behind," then we need to make sure that we are setting them up for success, not for failure, and teaching them the necessary skills to compete in the job market; which includes technology.
