  Universal Access

Rather than concentrate on "special education" technology, schools should investigate universal access to technology. Touch screens are common place in stores and banks, yet need to be special ordered in schools. Speech to text software can be found in many administrative assistant''''s software packages, but the school technology budget cannot cover the cost for students. Elevators are included when new schools are built, yet the buttons cannot be reached by people using wheelchairs. All new technology purchases need to be evaluated on access to all, including students who are able bodied, physically disabled or learning disabled.
