No longer video generation
I agree with
Borse''''s observation that students would choose
a computer over a video the vast majority of the
time. As a school library media specialist,
I''''ve seen this scenario repeated often:
teachers show their students a video or DVD, and
students become restless after 30 minutes (unless
it''''s an new movie - a rarity for most
students). When students have access to computers,
they are engrossed with using them for the entire
60 - 70 minute period. We, as educators of the
video generation, need to realize that although we
consider them a treat our students have grown up
with videos (and many with computers) and view
them as standard fare in their multimedia-rich
environment. We need to incorporate an array
of tools: hands-on methods, educational games
involving movement (even for high schoolers))
along with interactive digital activities and
projects.
