Encouraging the Use of Technology in the field
of Education
The level of technology used
by educators, both in the classroom and for their
own professional use, obviously varies, not only
by district (for funding reasons), but also by
individual. Funding issues apart, most people have
a self-professed "blind spot" for one or more
subjects, "technology" often being cited as a
prime example: attitude vs. aptitude, perhaps? One
way to encourage its use would be to incorporate
technology literacy as a requirement, rather than
as an elective, in both teacher education and
professional development courses. This would also
require the buy-in and participation of faculty
members. As time is a valuable commodity, teachers
could be partnered with a tech-savvy mentor
teacher, instruction could be carried out on-line,
and the use of "blogs" could be encouraged for
feedback from fellow
educators.
