Quick observation, perhaps others have noticed the same thing

Last week I made a site visit to an after school center and noticed something that surprised me a bit. A movie was being shown to the children (ranging in age from about 8-13) on a large screen in the middle of the room...but rather than watching the movie, most of the children were crammed together in front of computers that lined the walls of the room. The other adults my age were completely absorbed with the movie, but very few of the children seemed to be even slightly interested. I remember video being a treat when I was growing up, and still have a hard time escaping that mentality...but for this group video programming clearly had less appeal than the various computer games/internet sites they were able to access as an alternative to the movie.

Have others noticed similiar behavior? I have several hypothesis to explain the behavior that I saw, but I''''d be curious to first learn if this was just an isolated thing...or perhaps a more widespread phenomena.
