FIPSE Programs

Comprehensive Program: grants to improve postsecondary education.

FIPSE International Programs

U.S.-Brazil Higher Education Consortia Program: consortia of institutions of higher education promoting institutional cooperation and student mobility between the U.S. and Brazil.

European Union-United States Atlantis Program: collaborative efforts to develop programs of study leading to joint or dual undergraduate degrees. The program will also fund a small number of policy-oriented grants.

Program for North American Mobility in Higher Education: consortia promoting cooperative student-centered higher education and training activities between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

United States-Russia Program: consortia of institutions of higher education to promote cooperation in education and science between the United States and Russia.

Special Focus Competitions

Innovative Strategies in Community Colleges for Working Adults and Displaced Workers Program: Under this special focus competition we are particularly interested in projects that propose innovative strategies to benefit working adults and displaced workers who are pursuing degrees or credentials in community colleges.

Graduate Programs at Institutions of Higher Education Serving Hispanic Americans: Under this special focus competition, we are particularly interested in projects that propose innovative efforts to expand graduate-level academic offerings at colleges that enroll a significant number of Hispanic American students.

College Course Materials Rental Initiative: Under this special focus competition, we are particularly interested in projects that propose innovative efforts to increase opportunities for students to rent college course materials.

Underground Railroad Educational and Cultural Program: provides grants to support research, exhibition, interpretation, and collection of artifacts related to the history of the Underground Railroad.

Congressionally-directed Grants: Limited to recipients assigned under the Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009 (Public Law 111-08).

Higher Education Disaster Relief: provides funds to institutions of higher education located in an area affected by hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters occurring during 2008.

Hurricane Education Recovery Awards: In FY 2007 provided grants to institutions of higher education located in Louisiana, Mississippi, and certain counties in Alabama, Florida, and Texas affected by hurricanes Katrina or Rita.

FIPSE Seeks Proposal Reviewers

Reviewers are generally asked to read 5-10 proposals and are compensated for their efforts. The Office of Postsecondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education requires that all field readers have a Bachelor's or higher degree. If you are interested in being a proposal reviewer, please sign up in the Department of Education's field reader database. The Web address is http://opeweb.ed.gov/frs/register.cfm. When signing up in the field reader system, please select to read for the "Comprehensive Grant Program."
