NASA Education Programs

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has a rich tradition of investing in the nation's education programs and supporting the country's educators who play a key role in engaging and inspiring students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). NASA offers education resources and materials in a variety of program areas including elementary and secondary education, higher education, informal education, and education technology. NASA resources are available at no cost to schools, including private schools and home schools. Visit NASA's website for an overview about NASA education programs and resources.

NASA is composed of ten centers, each designed to support a specific part of NASA's science and exploration missions and supported by an Office of Education engaged in their surrounding communities. Each center's Office of Education offers a variety of educator and student programs, training, and resources. Additional information about each center's education opportunities can be found on the NASA website.

Following are some of NASA's education resources and programs:

  • NASA Educator Resource Center Network (ERCN):NASA's Educator Resource Centers (ERC) are located throughout the United States, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and in Puerto Rico. ERCs offer information about NASA and its educational resources and services. Custom designed programs to meet specific needs are available by contacting an ERC. Personnel provide in-service and pre-service training to educators using NASA curriculum support materials. ERC team members also collaborate with educational organizations to foster systemic initiatives at local, state, and regional levels. To contact a NASA ERC for local services, visit the ERCN website.

  • Central Operation of Resources for Educators (CORE): CORE serves as the worldwide distribution center for NASA-produced educational multimedia materials. For a minimal charge, CORE provides curriculum support materials to educators who are not able to visit one of NASA's ERCs or who are looking for large quantities of materials. Educators can use CORE's online catalog and mail-order service to purchase NASA education materials. Products include activity kits, bulletin boards, CD-ROMS, DVDs, publications, slide programs, and videotapes. To access closed-captioned and audio-descriptive versions of many materials and to purchase materials from CORE, visit the CORE website.

  • Educational Multimedia: NASA offers educational multimedia such as the Do-It-Yourself Podcast activity for students, video learning clips, webcasts, monthly educational programming on NASA TV, and image galleries. For more information about these programs, view the following NASA homepages:
